Hello, I had my pip assessment 10th December I got my assessment copy back quickly after asking and realised I’d only had 6 points. I called the case manager as I felt things were missed so I sent in some extra details. I called last week as it had been 4w since then and asked for an update I was told it was with a DM and I’d hear asap. It’s now Wednesday and due to some of my conditions I called for an update again, told it was still with the DM and has been since Friday last week. Does anyone know how long it will take with the DM? I’m super nervous and worried especially due to the points. I just need to know if it’s going to be rejected. I was told I’d receive a text update very soon. Does it usually take longer when rejected :(

Hi @CherryLemon23 you’re not alone – it’s something a lot of members have asked. Firstly, sorry to hear about your initial PIP assessment result but it’s good you contacted the case manager and got that additional information over to them.

There is unfortunately a very long wait for reviews and decisions. Hopefully you’ll start to get some updates. Did they give you any indication when you’ve chased them up on the phone? If not, it might be worth asking if they can give you an indication.

I know it’s easier said than done, especially when waiting for such an important decision but try to keep distracted even if it’s just a small distraction to try to help take your mind away from worrying. And we’re always here if you want to chat.

    Best wishes,

    Holly.

It can take up to 12 weeks for a decision after the assessment report was returned. Being with a decision maker doesn't mean they are looking at your claim at the moment. It just means it's with them waiting to be looked at, alone with thousands of other peoples claims.

Thank you for getting back to me. It is such a stressful time as I have such impulse control issues that make me want to speak to someone often to see what’s going on. But I know that won’t help and is annoying for the staff working. This one isn’t a review it is a first time claim. It was with the decision maker from Thursday last week and still haven’t had any update. But when I did call last I was told it should be ‘now’. Which is hard for me to get my head around as it’s a eeek later now and still not heard. I’m at week 6 now :(

Hi @CherryLemon23 I completely understand - I'd probably be the same! It's only natural to want to get updates and a timeframe for something so important which has a big impact on your life. It's disappointing they've said that, but fingers crossed if they're saying "now" to you, they're hopefully close to coming back to you and I really really hope that it's the decision you want. 💛

I just thought I’d update. I have a decision made when I called the line today it was made on Friday. I haven’t got any texts or calls etc just told a letter would come. Does this mean that I have been rejected? Thanks

They don’t always text if there’s an award. However, I see that you received the assessment report and there was only 6 points recommended, which indicates no award. The decision maker mostly goes with that and rarely goes against it but it can happen.

Once you know what that decision is if you’re not happy you can challenge it by requesting the Mandatory Reconsideration.

thank you for helping me. I think I am going to try a new claim as I actually have my diagnosis’s from some issues I didn’t include as I didn’t think you were allowed to if not diagnosed. So hopefully that will help and get some help from my EDS charity as they said they can help provide information thankfully :)

Please be aware that PIP isn’t about a diagnosis. Starting a new claim using the same evidence you currently used could see another refusal and you’ll be in the same position again. More often than not it’s better to challenge the decision.

You would need to wait for that decision letter before starting a new claim because you don’t know for sure what that decision was yet.

I have read about that, I have some new things to add so I thought it might be best to maybe start again if rejected
