Firstly…MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS kami 💖, I am sorry for intruding on your post, but amin a similar position as to what you were.
I have MS and receive IR ESA, but when I received the letter to Migrate, I realised that I should have been receiving SDP as I have been claiming as I have been claiming both ESA PIP (previously DLA) since 2011.
I was awarded SDP ON 19th Dec, but am still waiting to hear back regarding backpay.
When I received a call from DWP saying that I was entitled to SDP, they said that I would only be entitled to backpay since the call I made to claim SDP, because I should have claimed SDP before, so why didn't I.
I didn't know it existed!!
As both you and I had significant years to be checked, I was also wondering if you would tell me how long it took you, and how to contact your local MP please? (I live in Barnsley SY)
I was also advised during the call, that I could be waiting a very long time for any backpay, due to significant backlog.
My case is now with the department that checks if I have any debts (I dont).
Thankyou for listening to my worries everyone, any advice would be massively appreciated.

What you were told is incorrect, as you can see from this topic long backdates for SDP do happen.
If your SDP is not backdated to the date you became eligible, you can submit a Mandatory Reconsideration of that decision.

Thankyou Kimmi, I said that to him and he said because I hadn't raised the matter before the would only backdate to 2013.
Apparently I'd sent a form in, but I can't remember doing that.
I can remember getting a form years ago, but did not fill it in (I was young and still in denial, that I was Severely Disabled 😢
However. I now know different because I've experienced the traits of this progressive disease for many years.
