Do I call ESA to get them to send the migration letter, or, do I simply claim and hope it all works out?
My social worker advised me to claim as I am about to move house. I don't get any premiums and the extra money will be needed for my bills.

You claim UC.
Once you've claimed, UC will contact ESA behind the scenes so you don't need to do anything.
Natural migration (what you'll be doing) is one of the routes people change from legacy benefits to UC.
I went through natural migration myself almost 3 years ago 🙂
