Gov benefit rates April 2025

Hi everyone, thought you'd like to see this. It's from the House of Commons library. You can see the whole doc from this link:
https://researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/CBP-10105/CBP-10105.pdf
Take a look at Table 3, which shows how much they plan to increase UC:
Basic UC goes up by the grand total of £7 per MONTH.
If you qualify for LCW, it goes up an extra £1 a month!!
And if you're lucky enough to get LCWRA - woopie! An extra £7!
But wait… surely they CAN'T be THAT mean??
Oh yes they can!
Yep, they conveniently show us how benefit payments have fared compared with average wages - their new rates will be as low as they ever were under the Tories, and worse than they EVER HAVE BEEN since way back:
When the Tories were in we had an extra £900 for cost of living. NOW NOTHING
We also had a £20 uplift during covid. NO chance of that coming back.
Martin Lewis said the other day, energy costs are set to go right back up to the level they were when we had the cost of living crisis.
Joseph Rowntree were saying back in 2023 they need to uplift our benefits by at least £35 per week to pull us out of abject poverty. It's all fallen on deaf ears.
What are we supposed to do?
Don't they care? Nope.
We are being punished as society's pariahs for daring to be sick and disabled.
J Rowntree is a good read here:-

do you know what is happening with PIP if that's going up or not?
0 -
Yip! I'm on stand alone UC, no wages, no other income and my increase is a grand total of £6.69 per month. A whole £1.67 per week. What's even the point? Why bother? It covers absolutely nothing. Cost of living and energy prices has risen far higher than the 1.7% inflation they have stated.
It's deliberate 100%

No idea durhamjaide, but just seen apple's thread "RIP PIP" so think they're planning to replace it with something else… (Find their thread in Benefits + Income category)

Yep, it's an insult AZ. In reality it's a big pay-cut. They're sticking 2 fingers up at us.

thank you very much for your help

Those of us on means tested benefits didn't qualify for any cost of living payments or benefit uplifts!

Nothing is currently happening to PIP.
The recent news story is a study being done by The Commission of Social Security, a group of individuals with lived experience of the system.
The Government haven't yet released their Green Paper with their proposed changes.
Any changes will take a long time to become law, and ehat eventually does become law will probably differ from the proposals.

Not true for Cost of Living Payments, being on these means tested benefits on certain dates meant you'd get them:
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Income Support
- Pension Credit
- Universal Credit
- Child Tax Credit
- Working Tax Credit
Yes only those on UC got the £20 uplift.

I am on contribution based esa and I did not receive any of it.
0 -
Contribution based ESA isn't a means tested benefit.
Did you mean to write "non means tested benefits" on your post?
0 -
Maybe but I always thought it was means tested.
0 -
No Contributions Based ESA is a non means tested benefit.
The only means tested ESA is the old Income Related ESA.
0 -
I still never qualified for any of the extra payments.
I wonder why that was if my esa is non means tested.
0 -
Only means tested benefits qualified for the CoL payments.
ESA CB isn't means tested. That is why you didn't qualify.
