Hi, my name is Angiegil53! Son has just got his migration letter, any advice?

I'm a carer for my son who just got the migration letter. Now trying to find out more as he is schizophrenic and very anxious. He has just been moved to a one bed flat in HA and currently on Housing and Council Tax benefit.

He's been in ESA support group and getting PIP for many years. He is extremely anxious that UC will try to force him to apply for a job, although he can't got out on his own and finds it very difficult to communicate.

I’m currently in the process of this myself.
He won’t be made to look for a job as he is in the Support Group so decision will carry over with him to UC where he will be placed in LCWRA. The only claimant commitments he will have will be to update UC of any changes to his circumstances.
If you still haven’t claimed when you do and it comes to the ID part of you can’t do it online when they book an appointment you can ask for a biographical phone to confirm identity so your son won’t have to attend the JC in person.
Hope my response helped somewhat, like I said I’m going through this myself and that’s the best I can say at the moment.1 -
That sounds very worrying. I hope you find the information and support you need.

Hi thanks all it took several weeks for Housing Benefit to start paying and he was getting chased for rent arrears. This has now caught up to date and he is very anxious about getting behind again as understand you have to wait 5 weeks for first payment. Also is it best to apply just before the deadline or as soon as the rate goes up in April?

Aftet you apply for UC, he will get one more hb payment known as the run on payment, 2 weeks later.
3 weeks after that he'll receive Housing Element within UC, for the previous calender month.
There might be some arrears, what my landlord does is offer a payment plan to pay off a small amount each week, until the account is clear and each UC payment puts the account 1 month into credit.
I chose to pay for those three weeks out of pocket because I could afford it, and so it was easier with each payment putting my account into credit.
