So this has been written and posted on behalf of the person I look after as I'm there carer.

So the person I look after has been on income related ESA for 9 years and also in the support group and also had the severe disability element on top. Recently they was asked to migrate to universal credit like everyone. All was well we went into the job center we also did all the needed checks etc. first payment is on 15th march only waited 3 weeks. But he has had a message on journal today saying there's a phonecall booked next week to discuss commitments towards the new style ESA! I'm really confused by this as was told he would just migrate to UC and would not be worse off etc and be out in the limited capability for work group as impossible for him to work. He also gets enhanced pip on both. So can somebody please explain this in pure simple terms. Is he getting UC or new style ESA!? And if ESA how much will that be. The women at job center said the call is nothing to worry about etc but this was before new style ESA was mentioned in journal etc I cannot find simple help online about this either. Will he be placed on UC or new style ESA and will he end up being worse off or better? Thank U

I was on ESA for longer than that, but still get both NS ESA and UC.

it wasn't until migration that I learned I received both IR and CB ESA. The IR part ends when you apply for UC, but the CB part isn't included in the migration, and automatically becomes NS ESA.

I receive £276.40 per fortnight NS ESA, and a monthly payment of UC. The NS ESA is deducted in full from the monthly UC amount. Remembering that there are 4.3 weeks in a month, the deducted amount is £598.87.

As the claimant is in the Support Group, they will be placed on LCWRA automatically, but it is possible this won't appear in time for the first UC payment.

There are no disability premiums with UC, but if they were in receipt of the Severe Disability Premium, they won't be worse off, as they will receive Transitional Protection to offset the loss.

So he shouldn't be worse off? And whatever is taken from UC he will still just get every 2 weeks for new ESA?

The NS ESA will be paid fortnightly, yes.

The TP erodes over time, but may take a long time to erode completely. It depends on future increases, other benefits awarded etc.

No you don't lose the money.

You are still getting the ESA payments into your bank.

So whether you are 100% UC or NS ESA + reduced UC, total income for LCWRA is the same £809.64.

Im confused too I received my universal credit migration notice I have till 29th May

Im on income - related esa support group & I was told if you in a esa support group you payment will still be same , I've heard people that on high rate of esa support & high rate on pip on both but when you move over you UC is a monthly payment of £300+ but I would loss half of my esa fortnightly payment as if you add 2 x £318 a monthly you only only getting half of that on the UC which that means those that on support group esa loses £300+ how that the same there cutting our benefits by going onto UC

This is worrying me as I rely on my esa income related support group payment to buy the stuff I need for my long permanent illness a majority of my money goes to fund it

There is Transitional Protection with UC, that means Support Group with SDP, won't lose out, even when there are no disabled premiums with UC.

Those in receipt of only the Enhanced, well they benefit from the move.
