as a 54 years old gay man raised a Catholic with autism myself, I’ve previously worked for Tesco for 17 years before Covid where there were previously 2 other staff members with autism that I’m aware of at my former store who ended up being driven out by bullying and when I worked there, there was a well established culture of bullying in my former store where other colleagues would openly back and support bullying behaviour - however, what you experienced as a customer was totally inappropriate and has clearly crossed a line because it was totally unprofessional - clearly, bullying has got much worse in Tesco since Covid and is extending to customers as well with these racist and prejudiced attitudes - you really do need to take legal advice and take legal action against Tesco, as they do need to be held accountable for their actions in a court of law in front of a judge and jury

Sorry missed the hood bit. Regardless. I know a man who drives with his hood up. Don't ask why,I've no idea.
If they felt intimidated they should have got security. Not felt the need to comment inappropriately.

@justanobody00 I'm so sorry that happened to you and no, you're not overacting and yes, it is completely unacceptable, particularly as you were veiled. I wouldn't accept being fobbed off with no email address and being told you've got to go in to the store. What a cheek. The two staff members are clearly thick and extremely ignorant. If you want I'll put the CEO of Tescos email address in a minute, I emailed recently a complaint, nowhere near as serious as what happened to you but it was dealt with the same day by one of his 'specialist PAs'. I'd never trust a local duty manager to deal with anything. Try and have a relaxing evening; there are more good than bad I'm sure but it's sad that such ignorance exists.

If you decide to go to the 'top' the CEO email is

All the best to you.

just to act as devils advocate, but not to belittle your experience. My friend and I were in Marks some years ago. We were in the midst of a conversation laughing away. But at the same time there was a gentleman with his son who was disabled and was very distressed making high pitched noises. The father came over to us shouting how horrible we were for laughing at his son’s predicament when we tried to explain that we’re not, he would not have any of it. Sometimes we can be over sensitive. But if these two ladies were talking about you, please try and ignore it they have the problem not you. Don’t let their ignorance keep you inside hiding away. You have as much right to walk this earth as any other person.

That is appalling behaviour by staff members. My late sister late partner was Muslim but because he was diabetic didn't have to fast. I hope you get at least an apology. The world we live in is not very nice . People are judgemental. Take care and look yourself.

@Santosha12 oh my gosh, thank you so so so much for the CEO’s email. i’ve sent him a very lengthy and detailed email explaining what happened and hopefully they come back to me with a prompt and detailed response of what was done. i swear you’re a lifesaver im crying again xx

@justanobody00 I feel sad for you, I'm not surprised you're crying - if they laughed at you that's just shameful and tbh shocking and must feel like it goes to the heart of who you are. I'd be very shocked if Tesco didn't follow up on this, I'm sure they will. If I was still in HR/their manager they'd have some major explaining to do. Please don't forget too they'd likely be cameras on their/your location in store including their access beyond the door they went through and maybe in their staff room.
Finally (sorry I do go on a bit!), I never comment on people's names here, no need to/not my business what we call ourself via our user name. Mine's Santosha after my breed of dogs I own. I just want to remind you (if it's needed ) that you're a strong woman and not defined by your health issues and that you absolutely are a Somebody and you matter. I'm glad you've spoken out here about what happened, including directly to Tesco. Take care of yourself and sending love and hugs 🫂.

i’m ayesha. nice to meet you. love and hugs to you also, thank you again for telling me to raise this to the CEO which i now have and am waiting a reply from him back. i’m just so glad angelic people like yourself exist and please don’t think you’re going on, i prefer it when people say what they need to say.
and yes the store does have cameras and i’ve asked the CEO to review the store’s CCTV footage to identify those two nasty women.
