#AreYourKidneysOK - World Kidney Day 2025 comes to a close..
Today is @WorldKidneyDay, Hidden Illness and Disability day (or similar celebrations)
I've lived most of my life with CKD (chronic kidney disease) you can't see it.
CKD affects 1 in 10 of the UK population, 1 in 5 of the US population and yet public awareness is insanely low..
"No I can't have another kidney" "oh how long do you have dialysis for" you don't look well…
The general populous (and no thanks to the soaps) have no idea on the impact on day to day life (the multiple clinic visits after a transplant) the fear of the organ rejecting, the endless needles on dialysis.. The long term cardiac effects.. The inability to travel cos dialysis units are all FULL…. The very little progress on more portable dialysis equipment (for heamodialysis)
And not to mention the dietary & fluid limitations & restrictions - if your kidneys fail..
And the mental impact of family, relationships, work & friends… — They wonder why he doesn't smile…
