Hi. I have been dismissed from work for apparently not capable to do my job due to ill health capability! It is a load of poo! I lost the sight in my left eye in 1995 but due to an accident at work in 2019 i am now partially sighted in my right eye, a piece of metal hit me in the eye leaving me having 6 stitches, lenses implant, cataract surgery over a 5 month period. Ok i was of work for a year but i went back asking for reasonable adjustments and they said it needs to be in writing. in the meantime I had another accident at work due to them asking me to go on the shop floor and the crane hit me in the face knocking my teeth out, I had told the manager I was not allowed to go on the shop floor previously aswel. I then went back in the office for 6 months struggling with my eye sight. Told the manager about my eyes and he commented in a message that it can't be that bad!

It might be the case that you can't do your job. But you need to seek legal advice to see where you stand with all of this. The Health & Safety standards at your place of work seem lacking. The 'accidents' that have happened to you at work shouldn't of happened.

I would phone ACAS and explain to them everything that has happened.

Good morning @Lee_James it does sound to me that there is a lot of Health and Safety issues going on here. I hope the accidents were reported in the proper way ie works accident book/sheets. What about the firms HR department have they given you any advice ? Are you in a union, you need to seek a lot of advice by the sound of things.

I'm so sorry that you've gone through that @Lee_James.
If you were looking to take this further, I would also suggest specking to Citizens Advice and Advice Local. I would also reach out to your Local MP as they may have someone to help you. I would say to make sure that any written communication you have and all paperwork concerning the accidents at work is collected and copies made.
How did they dismiss you? By letter or in person?Hannah - She / Her
