Treats!

Remaking an old thread, what treats have you treated yourself to recently?
It doesn't have to be expensive or even cost money at all, it just has to be a treat for you.
I have had a tough few weeks but simultaneously have managed to save a little bit of money. So am planning to treat myself to some sake (Japanese rice wine) and some cheese. Maybe some sushi to go with the Japanese wine.

Weird "treat" but I feel it is, I ordered another birth certificate to go towards my family history research. There are a few mystery ancestors and I'm trying to get to the bottom of what happened to them.3
-
@Hannah_Scope I think that's a great treat and very worthwhile, I would love to find out about my family history myself.1
-
@66mustang it's the project that never ends! lol2

I've bought myself a couple of new items of clothing. Though in the sale, or from my local charity shop, mind!
I'm thinking of buying myself a new duvet cover, too. All very exciting

I bought a large bag of malteasers at the airport in alicante I don't eat much chocolate due to diabetes. I have been having 4 as a treat with a cuppa after me tea3

@Teddybear12 wow nice, I hope you enjoy it2

I bought myself a circa 2001 bass guitar made by a German company, very nice and I hope it will go up in value over time.4

@leeCal
I hope it does and that more importantly you get some enjoyment from it as well, all while making some money and getting free enjoyment.
I do the same with watches, I spend what for someone on my income is probably a very inappropriate amount, but I have never lost money so it is basically a free hobby, actually an earner.
Do you play "normal" guitar as well? Or just bass?3 -
No I don’t play a six string, I have played a bit of electric six string though, but I only play bass really and I used to play a keyboard when I had one. Not played the latter for years.
Im glad your hobby pays for itself. Also easier to re-sell than a blinking great guitar. I have three now and I really should sell one at least.
Same with cars, very easy to buy but not so easy to get rid of unless you sell it below market value.3 -
@leeCal I had a go at 6-string and found chords got a bit tricky, I never tried bass but I was thinking maybe it would be easier as from the sound of it they tend to pluck one string at a time (maybe that's not correct?). I had quite bad OCD when I played before though, and often couldn't physically pick the guitar up to practise, the OCD is a bit better now, maybe should try again. How long have you been playing for?
Watches is very much the same as how you describe cars! If you want to sell privately you have to be willing to deal with scams and such things, so I sell to a dealer which, like a car, means selling below market value. Fortunately the watches I purchased shot up in value so even selling below market price I made money!1 -
I have treated myself to new clothes, a manicure and pedicure and tonight I'm having a glass of Baileys or 2 whilst scratching a scratch card3
-
@durhamjaide2001 hopefully the scratch card pays off so you can treat yourself some more!!!1

The bass is a lot easier to play than a six string, physically, I mean I find I can’t pick out individual strings with my large fingers. Yes, you play one note at a time but you can play chords on a bass especially in the higher regions. Having said that it’s an instrument which you can play easily or in a complicated way, ie jazz is challenging, progressive rock was a fad years ago and the bass lines could be very complex, ie Yes and Geddy Lee for example. Players like Mark King of Level 42 also took slap bass to new levels, Flea of Red Hot Chilli Peppers also plays like no one else. So you have choices with the bass, play hard stuff or just take it easy. The easiest stringed instrument to play is supposed to be the ukulele, only four strings also. Sorry to hear about the OCD. Perhaps you could try a bass, it’s actually good fun and you could pick up a bass quite cheaply these days, in fact on that huge store online they sell a complete set for a round two hundred pounds, amplifier, guitar, leads and gig bag (handy for keeping the dust off).
i started playing just over forty years ago but ...and it’s a big but, I stopped for over thirty years of that so I’ve probably been playing for around five years. I bought a new one last feb and found I was rusty, relearning the fret board I’ve found a bit tricky. I think though I was in three different bands I was never that good at it. Now I’m taking my time and learning some difficult riffs on purpose to stretch myself. I’ve always wanted to run before I could walk and so I learned the basics and joined bands, the things we do when we’re young. Still I got away with it 🤣. Now I’m older I find I want practise a lot longer and more often, as a retired person I have the time and it gives me a sense of purpose in life.
I’m glad you made money on the watches, not easy to do as you say.2 -
I've just treated myself to a heated cushion, which is warming my lower back at this very minute. I ordered it after my naughty dog ate my heat pad yesterday! It arrived this morning👍3

great thread, i have a couple of things i buy or trade on, blurays or 4k blurays, and star wars items for my collection room, the blurays are getting more expensive so i'm getting pickier on which ones i buy, good thing is they keep there value so i can sell on relatively easy if needed, as for star wars, i've cut down a lot as i'm running out of space, but i do get the odd figure or helmet2
-
I bought myself a handbag and 2 pair of earrings on holiday2

Thanks everyone for sharing.
@leeCal that all makes sense! Thanks a lot for the info. Maybe not in the same league but I also thought Geezer Butler (I think that's his name!) from Black Sabbath was pretty good as a bass player. He didn't just support the guitar he did his own thing.1 -
You’re right about Geezer Butler, he even has pickups named after him, quite a punchy sound by all accounts.1
