Hi, I'm brightboy! Will I lose my PIP award when I reach state pension age?

I’m having trouble getting around due to my R hip replacement is failing. The pain is increasing daily. I asked for a review of my PIP & I was awarded 1 extra point (9) What do I do now?
I live on my own & I will be 66 in a few months. Will I lose my disability award as I receive my state pension? So much is going on with finances being stretched so far.

Any PIP award you have will continue when you reach state pension age. A worsening of condition doesn't automatically entitle you to more points for a higher award. If the PIP decision was within the last 13 months then you can challenge that decision by first requesting the Mandatory Reconsideration. (MR) You should put this in writing stating where and why you think you should have scored those points. If the decision was outside the past month then you will need to state why you didn't request it within the first month. You should also get some expert advice to check more points can be scored for a higher award. https://advicelocal.uk/welfare-benefits

Hello @brightboy and a warm welcome to our online community. How's it going?
I'm sorry to hear the review of your PIP didn't result in an enhanced award and would really urge you to follow Poppy's link to Advice Local to get free, independent advice from a welfare representative as they could go into your condition in more detail and really dig down into where (if anywhere) you could score extra points in a mandatory reconsideration.
Please keep us updated with how you get on. You also mention that you're struggling financially - are you coping okay with buying essential items such as food, fuel, etc?
Just to let you know, I've moved your thread to our PIP, DLA and AA category and amended the title to reflect your question and draw wise eyes to it Take care and have a restful evening.0 -
Hi to all, my name is dennis. My friends call me Des. I’m a widower who lives in Brighton. Brighton is an amazing place to live in however, for the over 60’s it can be difficult to find a friend. Talk to someone younger and you can see in their eyes “what are you after” Sometimes people of my age are out & about but I feel they are happy being left alone. I’m happy to talk to anyone. 😃 Des0
