Any ideas on how to get my bathroom refitted cheaply?

Hi all, I’m new here so I hope you understand.. I’m brightboy. That’s a mix of I’m from Brighton & I’m an ol guy.
My question started from 2015 while up dating our bathroom from a bath and sink to a shower because I was falling out of the bath. My wife was out when I received a phone call from a hospital near by. I was I need to go there now.
It turns out my wife passed away suddenly. Since then I haven’t been able to go back to refitting the bathroom
As we had a mortgage, I own the house as is. So now I’ve been living with washing in a bowl & hot water from a kettle. I’m on benefits & I can’t afford a plumber & the council won’t help.
Can someone inform me of anything that can help me? I’m not asking for a handout. I will pay what’s needed, I don’t have savings but I do have credit.
Thats it

Hello @brightboy how are you doing?
I'm sorry to hear about the circumstances around your wife's death. That sounds quite a shock and I can understand you struggling to go back to refitting the bathroom. How are you coping with your grief?
When you say the council won't help, have you been in touch with them about a needs assessment? In the meantime, here's Scope's 'Getting home adaptations' webpage that provides more information around your options.
Just to let you know, I've amended the title of your thread to help others spot it and offer their thoughts, and moved it to our 'Housing and independent living' category.
