With savings say over £6000, do the DWP allow a bit extra legroom when it’s money your saving for essential Home works

No. If it's means tested legacy benefits you're claiming such as Income Related ESA, JSA, Income Support or housing benefit then there's a £1 deduction for every £250 or part there of over £6,000. Savings of more than £16,000 means no entitlement to any means tested benefits.

If you're claiming council tax reduction then all local Authorities have their own rules and some have a maximum savings limit of £6,000 before CTR ends.

Single person discount isn't council tax reduction and you're entitled to the because you live alone. The disabled band reduction is also separate to the council tax reduction. I can't advise whether you would lose the council tax reduction because all local Authorities have their own rules. Some have maximum savings limit of £6,000, i know mine has this limit.

If you have more than £6,000 savings in total then you will need to report the changes for all means tested benefits you're claiming.

I did something on glasgow council tax thing saying I still qualify for £19 a week discount until it hits £16000 and it wipes it out. My landlord is doing essential works that lead to me paying for storage, repainting and recarpetibg. I seem buggered at all ends
