Hey everyone,
My name is Loz and I am a 25 year old woman diagnosed with Joint Hypermobility Syndrome by a rheumatologist. I have been referred for physio to strengthen my joints. Pilates/yoga and swimming have also been recommended to me but I was just wondering if there were any other exercise activities that people would recommend? If you need any info on my symptoms to make a judgement on what to recommend please do let me know and I would be happy to explain.
Thank you!

Hi @loz_ - rhythmical exercises like walking & swimming are good. Whilst waiting for your physio appointment, you might also like to try these gentle exercises: https://forum.scope.org.uk/discussion/73345/gentle-tai-chi-qi-gong-yoga-videosAlso try diaphragmatic/abdominal breathing which aids relaxation, reduces stress & pain: https://www.nbt.nhs.uk/sites/default/files/attachments/Diaphragmatic Breathing.pdf

What is it if you don’t mind me asking? Mine is Joint Hypermobility Syndrome but I have been advised by other members of this website that my rheumatologist is using an outdated term and it’s now known as Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder.
I get all kinds of horrible symptoms with my diagnosis. If you ever want to chat about the condition just let me know

I have HEDs and definitely second strength training thats specified to you, it's totally changed my mobility and pain levels! And the abdominal breathing My physio told me to avoid yoga but that's probably different from person to person Good luck!0
