Unless you have a partner under State pension age (when you can then continue to claim as a couple), then your UC will stop when you reach SP age. Your PIP award will continue as long as you remain eligible. You can see about the eligibility for UC here: https://www.gov.uk/universal-credit/eligibility

When you reach State Pension Age you may be eligible for Pension Credit depending on how much your State Pension is and whether you live alone or if you have a partner and they receive State Pension too.

Because you are receiving the Daily Living part of PIP and if you live alone, then your income threshold for Pension Credit will also be higher because you would receive the SDE (Severe Disability Element.  So you could possibly still be eligible even if receiving the full New State Pension.

Even a very low amount of Guarantee Pension Credit would mean you have no Council Tax to pay.  If you rent there may be Housing Benefit as well but that's not something I know a much about.

Do you know how much your State Pension is going to be and when will you start to receive it?  You can apply for Pension Credit three months before your State Pension is due to start being paid.

I think you need to be on the enhanced rate of daily living to be able to claim SDE.

That is incorrect, standard rate also qualifies.

It’s known as the Severe Disability Addition. To qualify it is also necessary that no one is receiving Carers Allowance or the carer element of UC for living after them.

That's not correct. As calcotti advised it's any rate of daily living PIP.

I don’t understand why you posted that comment again although I had already corrected the information when you first posted it.

Yes it's any rate of daily living for PIP to get a Severe Disability addition.  I have personal experience of this.

It's different names depending on the means tested benefit claimed.

So confusing, it can be Severe Disability Premium or Element or Allowance!

I forgot to mention that no one should be claiming a Carer's benefit for them.

@gadge690 you can put in a claim for Pension Credit up to 3 months before you are due to start receiving your State Pension.   Depending on your circumstances you either will or will not be entitled to the Severe Disability Allowance.

If you can tell us the following then we can advise you in more detail.

    1.  The weekly amount your State Pension will be and when it becomes due.

    2. Do you live alone?

    3. Does anyone receive Carer's Allowance or a Carer's Element for caring for you?

    4.  Do your savings or capital total over £10,000?

    5.  Do you have any other income including private pensions or wages?  Your PIP doesn't count for this.
