Hello, my name is MaddyB. Speech and language assessment for my toddler.

I am the parent of a toddler who suffered a brain injury as a result of Meningitis when a baby. We are playing the waiting game to see the extent of the impairment. They are about to have a speech and language assessment (we are paying to go private for this) and they are on a long waiting list for an assessment for a possible cognitive development delay. Is anyone else feeling totally helpless and that they are letting their child down while they wait for support?

Hello @maddyb
I just wanted to let you know, I popped your post into our Children, Parents and Families section of the forum. I thought you may find someone else who has had a similar experience.
You are not letting your child down, you are getting them an assessment, I am keeping everything crossed that comes around soon for you all. Can I ask, are you ok? do you feel like you have good support?
The community are a lovely bunch and we are always here if you want to talk or vent1 -
Thanks Hannah. I'm okay, I just feel a bit lost. Hopefully I can find support in this community.0

I feel totally helpless. You are not letting your child down you are doing the best you can. Good luck with your child's speech and language assessment. Just keep pushing for the assessment for a possible cognitive development delay. Have you asked your GP for their help with this? Take care.
I can't complain about the NHS, they saved her life, but they're at breaking point.1 -
