And yes I am claiming UC.

Which means claiming New style ESA will not make you financially better off because the ESA will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement. However, you will receive class 1 NI credits from the ESA and it's not means tested so can be useful in the future.

Yes think that is partly why I wanted to apply for it. And to help with UC understanding my situation so they won't force me to look for work right now.

Claiming the ESA is not going to help with that. If you're claiming with your partner and they earn more than £988/month then you'll be in the light touch group anyway so won't be expected to look for work.

Yes i know that, i was referring to the difference in the credits for both (if they were receiving payments for NsESA) Sorry, i should have made that clear.
Very difficult not to include some ambiguity when posting so many posts - I know I do!

    Can't disagree with that!

Sorry for the typos in my earlier post.

I agree that if you were eligible to ESA there would be merit in getting ESA as well even UC though there would be no financial gain. However it does look likely that you are not entitled to ESA.
Yeah I understand why I'm not entitled now. Just wasn't very clear to me in my letter. Thank you to you and everyone else in clearing that up for me.

Oh right my partner seemed to think different or maybe I misunderstood him. I have been updating my sick notes anyway to UC so hopefully that should make it clear as to why I'm not actively looking for work. If I get treatment for my condition and things improve I can think about going back to work again.

The Work Capability Assessment for ESA and UC is exactly the same. For those who claim both the WCA is undertaken by UC. UC will not the WCA decision into account until the WCA assessment has been completed and a decision made. In the mean time a Work Coach can use their discretion to reduce or turn off requirement. In your case, because of your earnings, you should be in the light touch anyway as mentioned by poppy.

Have you had a WCA for UC?
