I dont know if this is unusual or not...?

Hi everyone. My wife called DWP in November to start a claim for PIP and the relevant form was posted to her, and a few days later, she returned the completed form to DWP along with supporting documentation.
Around a week later, they sent her a text to tell her that they'd received the form.
We heard nothing until last week, when I (rather than my wife) received a call. The guy said he had been asked to call me (again, me rather than my wife) by DWP in connection with her claim for PIP.
I could tell it was a genuine call rather than a scam from a few of things he said, he clearly had her file and details in front of him. He only asked me to confirm my name and my relationship to my wife.
He then asked three questions which were in relation to her ability to dress herself, her ability to cook, and her ability to get from point A to point B.
I answered the three questions, the guy thanked me and said the DWP will be in touch.
What we're trying to figure out is whether that was the assessment? They didn't contact either of us in advance to arrange the phone call. It came out of the blue, and the phone call lasted no more than about 6 or 7 minutes, plus they didn't want to speak to my wife at all. They called on my number rather than hers, and they didn't ask to speak to her.
I called DWP this morning to ask if there had been any progress with her claim and the lady said "we haven't received the assessment back from the assessor yet", so it does sound as if that phone call was indeed an assessment, but after all the horror stories I've read, I'm really not sure!
If you could let me know your thoughts, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks
Anton

Are you the appointee for your wife?
Sometimes they do call just to clarify things on the form. I have had that before.
