National Genealogy Day

Been drawing a blank on my grandmother for ages, then realised I had wrong details, now I've found her mom n dad and theirs lol. Plus I noticed someone has them on their tree coming from her sisters line.
Not received notification from 23 and me yet with DNA been a week0 -
@Sandy_123 I did the same thing with a few ancestors. For some reason my family have a habit of going by nicknames, completely different to their birth names
I hope you hear something from 23andme soon!

Can you believe it's National Genealogy day?
Has anyone found anything out recently they wish to share? I posted this somewhere else before. But last year, when watching Sir Andrew Lloyds Webber's episode of "Who do you think you are?" I realised we are distant cousins! On one branch of our family, he descends from the middle son whereas I descended from the older son. Mad! Never thought I'd have a "famous" connection in my family.

I've not focused on these people fully as I'm focusing on others at the minute but I'm related to royalty in Scotland and it comes down to Elizabeth the 1st and some Queens from that era I believe josh on tv is also related to those
Have you send Andrew Lloyd an email1 -
@Sandy_123 That's so cool! I think it's great when you find a royal relation as there's always a portrait! Josh Widdicombe? Yes, I believe he is related through the Boleyn's? You'll have lots to go through there!
I sent him a tweet saying "hi cousin"... no reply0 -
Oh that's a shame when they don't reply
Like I say I havnt delved into it fully that side. I know its there and people who have same have all these royalty pics on there's and really went to town on it.
Takes years doesn't it, I like to get as much information as I can that's why it takes me so long. But I'm in no rush. No ones going anywhere. Family want all the info but don't want to help so they can wait0 -
I always say, ancestry research is the hobby that never ends! Especially with things like the 100-year privacy law. I've been having so much fun with the 1921 Census.
I can't wait to hear more about what you've found when you have gathered it all.
Eurgh! I hate that. They want to know but won't help. Should send them the rates for a genealogist! I'm lucky that a few family members have been so helpful. My grandmother loves it too and she's able to help timeline everything she knows whilst I do the technical side0 -
I sent them the passwords and everything and they havnt bothered, apart from my sister in law who thought I was going to do her side. Ain't got time for other people's who are not irrelevant.
I say that too its a hobby. I like the 1921 census I access it at the library and its only about 15p a print out. Plus I get to look intelligent lol0 -
Haha! oh dear *face palm*. Hopefully they don't disrupt your work on it too much. I have invited family to view, that's it. They can't touch
I have found some great revelations with the 1921 census. Second marriages with more kids. Addresses that are still standing today! I just buy the record as I need it as with a lot of my family lines, they all lived under the one house in 1921! Bonus for me!0 -
I love googling their addresses I don't know why, also their graves, one I can't find, but then I go on a mission to find it.0
-
@Sandy_123 I'm currently hunting for a grave! A lot of my family were farmers, so I'm always interested to see if it's still a farm.
I came across one address the other day and I recognised the road name. It's because the land is now a carpark!0 -
Oh no a car park, some people used the land for graves which could be why you can't find it. Plus the data bases only hold certain amount of information at the moment. Ancestry emailed to say they've added loads more to there's recently.
Happy hunting0 -
@Sandy_123 Hopefully they'll be in that information update! I think churches are sick of emails from me0
-
Yes I've looked at church records not come up with anything. Unless mine is a paupers grave but still should be documented. Might be worth looking through the new information1
