PIP Telephone Assessment

Hi I’ve got my pip telephone assessment tomorrow and I’m trying to get my head around how long it takes you to walk a distance. I’m a slow walker with pain and unsteady on my feet I use a walker with a seat on most of the time I never go out alone always have someone with me due to other illnesses and anxiety. I think I can walk about 14/15 bus lengths taking me about 5/6 minutes. I believe this is a new question they ask at assessment I’m so worried about it as I only found out about the new question yesterday any help or previous experience would be appreciated thank you.

Hello @Shanty321 and welcome, thanks for reaching out today
Firstly, all the best for your assessment tomorrow, I remember mine, and while it wasn't easy, it at least felt like it went quickly.
I can't recall if I was asked specifically about how long it would take me, but I did focus on the fact that I really cannot walk without getting a lot of pain, and feel fatigued quickly, and that I use a wheelchair instead.
Perhaps focus on what you've said here:I’m a slow walker with pain and unsteady on my feet I use a walker with a seat on most of the time I never go out alone always have someone with me due to other illnesses and anxiety.I hope that helps a little, and please let us know how you get on, when you can!0 -

Thank you tomm for your help it’s just so confusing especially the bit on how many minutes you can walk.0

Take in account how many times you need to rest due to pain, fatigue etc also take into account if you can reliably do it safely and without pain etc
Good luck1 -
Hi,If I may.....When you consider walking, if you need to stop for 5 seconds it will be seen as a pause. If you need to stop for 5 minutes it could be argued that it is 2 separate walks (or 3, or 4 - depending on how many times you stop).Andy1
