Council Tax and PIP

Hello everyone,
I have a question about PIP and Council Tax.
Recently I was awarded the enhancement rates for PIP Mobility and Living.
I've been told that I should receive a discount on my Council Tax bill.
Is that true? and if so, will the council tax backdate the payments from when I first applied for PIP, or would it start from April when we all get our new bills?
I've tried to call my local council and they are waiting for instructions from the DWP.
Thank you for any advice, it is appreciated.

Getting PIP doesn’t cause a CT discount.

Thank you for your message Calcotti.
Sorry, what do you mean by Recall?

Whether you get a discount for claiming PIP depends on your local council, although the majority don't provide an extra discount. I don't know if it would be backdated.

Sorry, I have amended the post to be clearer that “Getting PIP doesn’t cause a CT discount.”

Thanks JBS2022. I'm going to call the local council again and find out.
It's just that the CAB benefits advisor guy told me I should get a CT discount as i'm now disabled. It would be great to get a discount and a possible backdated credit payment. But it's not looking good from what i'm now hearing

CAB told my husband the same thing, he never got any extra discount. It's definitely worth checking  with your local council, I recall someone from these forums did get an extra discount for PIP. Seems to be rare though.

Might be worth taking a look on gov site link above that’s if you haven’t already 😁

PIP doesn't automatically qualify you for CTR. You maybe able to get a discount, which is different to CTR. See link provided above.

Thanks Weakspot, for the useful link.

That's kind of what the CAB guy told me. That there are some discounts for CT and the disabled on PIP. I'm just wondering if anyone on here has had experience with these discounts and if the council backdate last years payments from when I received PIP and became disabled.

It is true some disability circumstances can result in CT discounts but PIP award does not automatically cause them. Hence my initial comment of initial post saying "Recently I was awarded the enhancement rates for PIP Mobility and Living.
I've been told that I should receive a discount on my Council Tax bill."

    Hello all.
Just a quick update about council tax and PIP.
Since being awarded enhanced rates in both, my local council has refunded me my council tax from
the time I made the PIP application (3 weeks until it landed into my bank account) and have given me 100% discount on this years bill. 23/24.
The system seems to be working in our favour.
    Good luck to all
