Lcwra

Just want something clarifying for me regarding my lcwra decision
I changed my health circumstances on my uc journal on the 26th August 2022 and reported my 1st fit note on the same day
I received my decision letter about lcwra on the 31st of March this year
On the letter it mentions backdated pay but doesn't give a time scale to when they would be in touch about it? It's got me doubting if I'm entitled to any back pay (there's been no gaps in between fit notes, some do overlap in fact, my most recent one runs out on the 10th of May)

Hi @April39 - & welcome to the community. There's a 3 full months waiting period from when you reported the change in your health condition, & as you provided a fit note on the same day, then payment would be from the 4th month. The exact date depending on the dates of your assessment period, or if you could let us know when you normally receive a payment. However back payment is only payable if you don't have a partner who is already claiming the LCWRA element, as this is only possible for one of a couple. It can take some weeks to calculate this if you're eligible.1

Is that any use? Fortunately for me I'm single (just me and my cat mikey)

So that shows your assessment periods are from the 18th-17th, & you're paid on the 24th.Backdated LCWRA element will therefore be from assessment period Dec 18th 2022 -17th Jan 2023 which I believe is payable from 24th Jan 2023, so by 24th April you will be owed for 4 months (presuming you don't have any recoverable debts which can be deducted from UC).2

Only a council tax debt deduction but I'm paying that off £16.75 pm0

When you have your statement this month check to see if the LCWRA element is included because it should be.The money that's owed will be paid separately to your usual monthly money and often takes quite a few weeks to pay what it owed. Before they pay you they will need to recalculate your past statements. This will tell them how much you've already been paid against what you should have been paid and you'll receive the difference between the two. You will then receive a letter on your journal telling you how much they owe and it will be paid into your bank account. When the statements are recalculated they will replace the existing ones so you may want to to take copies now.If you haven't heard anything in the next week put a message onto your journal under the payment section to ask about the money that's owed.1
