Currently in receipt of ESA(IB) & PIP.
What is the process once I get to 6k? Do I have to contact DWP every month and send them a statement? Do they work out what income is from PIP and what income is from ESA? I believe the PIP would not come in to the equation as it's non means tested?
It is my quite recent award of PIP that's pushing me towards the 6k at a faster rate than anticipated. I know the upper savings limit is 16k...
Once I start sending them statements are the going to start scrutinizing what I've spent money on each month?

For every £250 or part there of over £6,000 there's a £1/week deduction. Your money will not be classed as capital until the end of the period they are paid for.Although your PIP isn't means tested, any money left at the end of the period becomes capital. You will need to work out yourself when both benefits becomes capital. You will need to contact them each time it goes into the next £250.It's very unlikely you'll be questioned for everything you spend your money on as there's no definition of deprivation of capital. Is there anything you need around your home? New furniture, clothing? Maybe a little treat for yourself now and again so you can keep your savings under the £6,000? Remember, savings of less than £6,000 are ignored so there's no rules against spending extra to keep it under the limit. If you're claiming housing benefit and council tax reduction these will also be affected. For council tax reduction all local Authorities have their own rules and some have a maximum savings limit of £6,000 before entitlement to CTR stops.0
