PIP assessment question

Hi, I had a telephone assessment yesterday and was asked the suicide question, I presume because I've attempted suicide a three times two years ago, last one in a coma and cardiac trauma for 3 days in ICU. I panicked when I was asked and feared being sent into hospital if I replied truthfully, so I lied and said I didn't feel suicidal. Just wondering how this will affect the outcome and also how should I have answered, would I have been reported?

Thanks

Thank you purrrrrr....Yes I think you're right, that would if been the best response, but I panicked when asked. I was having a huge anxiety attack the whole way through the near 50 minute call.

I can guarantee you're not the only one to answer that question pragmatically rather than truthfully.

I don't see it being relevant to the PIP descriptors, it's more for the duty of care that they have and they can stop the assessment and even contact emergency services if they believe you're in immediate danger.

Hello @johnfrancis and welcome to the community.

Being honest in that situation was probably the better option, but I can understand why you responded the way you did and like others have stated, you won't have been the only one to do so. PIP assessments aside, if you are feeling overwhelmed or in crisis, it is important that you seek professional help immediately. You can reach out to a helpline such as the Samaritans on 116 123, NHS 111, or a local crisis service for immediate assistance. They are trained to provide support and can help you navigate difficult emotions.

Can I ask if you have sought a mental health referral through your GP or another medical professional at all?

I've not had much luck in the past but I'll try, thank you.
