With the coronation weekend upon us, plans have been released, people are already lining up for the best view and being a disability equality charity we wondered, what about accessibility?
The GOV webpage has all the information for this coming Saturday.
The webpage shows many points along the procession route and at viewing points like in Hyde Park where you can watch the event on a giant screen. I even like that they have shown accessible transport and provided maps for people to download.
As someone who needs access to a disabled bathroom, I am impressed by what they are offering but of course we need to see what happens on the day.

The GOV webpage has all the information for this coming Saturday.
Accessible viewing areas will have:
Carers or companions are allowed to accompany and they even have "quiet" areas for those who may start to feel overwhelmed. - stewards managing the areas
- accessible viewing areas at ground level, providing dedicated locations for wheelchair users, and people with mobility impairments and other access requirements
- a British Sign Language interpreter
- a hearing loop for people using hearing aids
- welfare points to provide assistance, if needed
- disabled people’s toilets and Changing Places toilets
- assistance dog facilities

Over to you:
- Do you think they have thought and planned well when it comes to accessibility?
- Is there anything missing?
- Are there any features you were surprised to see they thought of?

I'm hoping/praying that there will be chairs in these places! I fully understand that it takes up more space, but I can't drag folding chairs with me as well as everything else! Also, that there is something like a check, I carry Nimbus card as well as photos of PIP and blue badge.. I heard of the shambles of the late Queen's lying in state and letting people through then closing that line far too early.
I've contacted the council but they don't know either? -
For anyone planning on attending in person, there's a social story on the Coronation website. It runs through what you can expect from the day, and when.
I'm not sure if it answers your question or not @janie123, but it might be worth having a look? -
