Hi just a bit of advise, I have just been turned  down for Pip. I really thought it would be okay but obviously the don't see having to self catheterize 3 or 4 times a day does not impact on my life .

Hi @dobo1969 - & welcome to the community. I'm sorry your PIP claim hasn't thus far been successful. Have you considered asking for a Mandatory Reconsideration where another decision maker will look at your claim again? I'm also sorry that you need to self catheterize daily, but do you have any other problems such that you can't do any other of the activities/descriptors reliably, as the problems you mention on their own wont be sufficient to gain sufficient points for an award to be made. Have a look at the descriptors here to see if anything else may apply: https://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/asset-library/personal-independence-payment-descriptors-and-scores-april-2022.pdf

Whether it’s possible to score enough points needed for an award will totally depend on how your conditions affect you against the 12 PIP activities. It’s not awarded based on any diagnosis.

You can request the Mandatory Reconsideration within 1 month of the date of the decision. You should put this is writing stating where and why you think you should have scored those points.

Id also advise you to get some expert advice to check if it’s possible to score enough points needed for an award. You can check what advice agency is local to you here https://advicelocal.uk/welfare-benefits

Hello there @dobo1969 I'm sorry to hear you've been turned down for PIP. If you feel able to, you can challenge the decision you've got from the DWP by asking for a Mandatory Reconsideration, as others have mentioned.

If you'd like a clear overview of what steps you can take next, Turn2Us have information on how to appeal a PIP decision.

If you'd like to speak to one of our advisers directly by phone or email, you can also contact the Scope Helpline.

Being turned down for PIP can be difficult news to hear, so make sure you have some time to process this and focus on your own wellbeing. If we can help with anything further, just ask :)
