I posted about this in the MH forum under O/T so won’t go into too much here
but what organisation can help me with social housing and getting on the housing register ?
my current accommodation is making me so ill I have a blood test next week as I have no energy this could be lack of sleep or not eating properly but it’s caused by where I’m living
my psychologist didn’t want to know and has now discharged me as there is no more they can do, I am being referred for an autism test
any advice of anyone that can help ?
thanks

Hi@Purrrrrrr I contacted both suggested and CAB were useless and told me to contact shelter who said they have many calls similar to mine and they will pass it to their lawyer but if I don’t hear anything then they can’t take it on, I never heard anything
i also tried contacting my MP, before I could speak to her the secretary wanted a brief description of my concern, when I told her they said the MP is raising the issue with housing regularly in the commons and that was that0 -
In your other thread you said you needed to have lived in the area for 5 out of 7 years before they will add you into the list which is quite a long time. All I can suggest is the same as I advised on your other thread and that’s a needs assessment with an OT recommendation to be rehoused because of your health conditions. However this is still no guarantee that anything will happen any time soon. The only other suggestion I have is to look for a private landlord but again this won’t be an easy process because a lot of LL refuse benefits claimants.0

Thanks @poppy123456 i have asked my psychologist to refer me to the O/T but my psychologist wanted to refer me to teach / help me cook which i refused
Is it worth paying for private MH counselling or similar to help write a report for council ?0 -
You can refer yourself for an Occupational Health assessment, They will send someone out who will go through the things your having issues with(Bare in mind their main focus is to keep people in their current homes so they will want to make sure they do everything possible to help with that, they usually only push to move people if their current home is unadaptable/unsafe) it can take awhile to get an appointment(it varies from area to area but roughly 6-12 months but it can be more or less).
Unfortunately with housing crisis the wait list can be excessively long(They usually aim to house disabled people who are in unsuitable/unsafe conditions etc first) the wait again depends on the area and banding so it could be several years.
I’d recommend getting on the OT wait list asap

apples said:@Luchia thank you for the advice, I have my psychologist calling me early next week to get the autism referral done, if they haven’t done the O/T referral I will do it myself just wasn’t sure that I couldIf you could tell us a little bit about your current living arrangements it might help to give advice, only if your comfortable with that though0
-
You’re much better off to refer yourself which I thought you were already doing. You can do that here https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/social-care-and-support-guide/help-from-social-services-and-charities/getting-a-needs-assessment/
Even after you’ve been assessed this doesn’t mean you’ll automatically move house. It could still be many years.1 -
@Luchia it’s hard for me to pick up the phone to talk to people but I will try.
my current living condition, from the outside it looks like a house although there are 9 rooms inside, the walls are paper thin and I had a neighbour next door that was extremely noisy banging shouting etc (also suffered MH) but a new tenant moved in below this neighbour and they ended up fighting so both got moved, however since November I’ve had a new neighbour Eastern European who is worse, shouts in his language, bangs, makes silly noises and this starts late at night, last few months he has been coughing and hawking at silly o clock in the morning, I have ear plugs in but can still hear him, the tenant below him is never here and has no one the other side so just me is being disturbed. He begs outside the local supermarket so he can find his drink, even though the rent gets paid by UC and we have no other bills.
the house has junkies and drunks here, only a few months ago one of the tenants was arrested and jailed for drugs, I don’t feel safe here as I haven’t a proper front door just a fire door.
my so called kitchen has no plug sockets so I can’t have a microwave, air fryer, toaster or kettle, I have one cupboard under the sink so no room to store food or plates etc
also my tenancy was for 6 months that ran out last May, so since been on a rolling tenancy which make me worry as I need stability as I hate change
@Purrrrrrr thank you 👍1 -
Thanks @poppy123456 I’ll have a look at the link provided, I looked into the SS referral but didn’t like that I had to disclose my finances0
-
The SS referral is the same as the needs assessment. An Occupational Therapist will come out and assess you. You do not need to use the phone, it can all be done online. The financial assessment you were asking about on your other thread is usually done after the needs assessment, if any help can be given and you agree to it. It seems like your area does the financial assessment first but like I advised this doesn’t mean you have to pay anything at the moment. You also mention some noise from neighbours but are you aware that this can happen where ever you live. I live in a terraced house and my one neighbour is always shouting at her young child and I hear this child crying and screaming quite a lot.1
-
Thanks poppy I’ve been told before about the noise, but with the tenancy situation and me not handling change well I’d like the opportunity to register for housing as at present I’m not being given the chance1
-
I'm not even sure if a referral recommendation from an OT will help you to register on the housing list, without having lived in the area for the time required.

Thanks @poppy123456 I’ll give it a try seems I’ve tried everything else0
-
I would only echo what has already been suggested @apples. Please don't hesitate to let us know if there's anything we can do to support you. I hear how difficult this is for you, especially as you feel like you have tried everything else. Almost like you are in a really difficult place but there are not many options left available to you
