It's difficult to find suitable work that won't stress me out
Hi, aim autisic and have anxiety. I've been trying to find part time work but it's difficult finding work that is suitable for me. I've been looking at cleaning and picking/packing jobs because they don't require too much interaction but the environment might be too noisy for me and I can only do a bit of hoovering because I get annoyed and headaches from noise and I can get tired easily from strenuous activity. I haven't come across a suitable job yet and when I ask specific questions about the type of work I don't get much response. I feel like people would rather not employ me because they see me as extra hassle. My last employer wasn't able to make suitable adjustments for me so I left my last job. I'm starting to think it will take years for me to find a realistic job I can do. I'm waiting for a work capability assessment so will see what happens. It's just frustrating and I get low mood thinking about my future and if I will be able to afford to live independently or not if I can't find a job.

Hi there @shanni91 and thanks for reaching out, it can be hard when there's so many barriers to employment- sometimes people's attitudes are the biggest hurdle, as they might lack awareness of what autistic people can do in work, and feel like there's too much hassle to adjust things, as you say.
I'm sorry this was the case in your last job, if you felt you faced any discrimination, it's worth visiting ACAS for advice and information.
Did you know Scope offers Employment Support Services? You might like to see if Support to Work can help you in looking for work, and getting into employment.
Keep us up to date with your WCA, and how things go. If there's anything else we can do in the meantime let us know, and I hope you enjoy spending time on the community.0
