Pip reduced car tax

Hi,

I sent my forms off with all the info (log book, pip letter etc) to DVLA to get back 50% car tax back. The DVLA received this on the on 17th. I am getting worried that they have not got back or sent my documents back. Does anyone know how long does the process usually take?

I have no idea how long it takes but it's only been 7 working days since they received it so i wouldn't expect you to receive anything back yet.

    Thanks for your reply, Poppy.

I guess I’m just worried because I had to send original documents and I don't want them to get lost. Then I start getting paranoid that the DVLA will take my licence off me because I claim PIP.

That’s not going to happen at all!

    Hello @raj123

As Poppy said, it has only been 7 working days. If worst comes to worst, you can always call up and get new copies of those documents issued. Don't worry :)

Easier said than done, though, @raj123. Does anything usually help you while you wait to not worry?  :)

Still have not heard anything. I'm trying not to think about it, I wish I knew a way to worry less, but I am still searching for solutions to that and in the meantime I usually loose one worry and gain another :)... If I don't laugh about that, I'll cry :)

Please let us know when it does come through.  I haven't been able to find any recent timescales for this process either.

Also like to know if they return your PIP form.  I've read that they don't always return them but that seems odd as they have to return the V5.

At least you can laugh about it to not cry, I guess @raj123. Thinking of you and wishing you all the best of luck with it. Please feel free to keep us in the loop with how things are for you and if we can do anything to help  :)

Just an update. I got all my documents back from the DVLA today with a cover note saying 'your enquiry is being dealt with'. They also stamped my PIP letter with KFO and added the date and wrote my registration number on it (that worries me)

I wonder why they would stamp my pip letter with KFO and write my registration number on it too. Does anyone have any idea what KFO means?

Because the certificate is for one vehicle only. If you change your car you will have to get a new certificate from the DWP.

That's not correct. The certificate of entitlement refers to Enhanced mobility and free road tax. It doesn't apply to 50% reduction.

No they do not. I have no idea what KFO is.

UPDATE. I got two letters from the DVLA today; one was a cheque for half the car tax and another letter saying they have arranged a refund and a few other pieces of information about what I will have to do next year when I need to tax again etc.

So it was quite a long process, about 7 weeks from when I sent the letter asking for a refund to when I got the refund.

I hope this information helps others who want to claim their 50% car tax back after paying it all up front initially.

Also, I read on another forum that because they stamp the pip letter, next year I will have to get a new pip letter to send as the DVLA won't accept a stamped letter again.
