What do you call this?

I was reading recently about how people living together sometimes develop their own 'language' at home, by using different names for things, or certain phrases no one else can make sense of!
It got me thinking, what do you call one of these:

My family and I call it a hoofer doofer

The "telly stick"3
-
I've not heard of 'telly stick' before @66Mustang but it makes a lot more sense than mine! I've had some very funny looks when I've asked friends to pass the hoofer doofer over0
-
Ha ha0
-
I'm boring and it's the remote lol1
-
For a long time my family called it a "commytrollus" after either me or one of my siblings said that, being unable to properly say "remote control"

The correct name for something is not always boring @Sandy_123
And that's excellent @rustledjimm, it's harder to say commytrollus for me! This might be slightly unrelated, but after my sister called gloves "glubs" that has stuck too!
As a cat person, I must ask- how are your cats today @EffinMuppet, clearly not TV fans?0 -
For me it's a remote control. I was with my grandson one day quite a few months ago and he asked where the "telly box" was. I said, what's a telly box, he said it's a remote. He's only 3 but so funny sometimes.

Children can be very funny and very insightful indeed Poppy!
I'm alright thank you @EffinMuppet, not surprised about the cats, I bet they are enjoying the sunshine today0 -
According to my Irish son in law it's a yoke...🥴0
-
Wow, that's a new one to me @vikingqueen, 'yoke' like egg yolk, or yoc-key, I wonder?0
-
From my experiences with my close Irish family 'yoke' essentially translates to 'thingy/thing'.Pronounced yoke like in the egg.2
-
Spot on @rustledjimm everything is a yoke and the daft thing is we all know what it is when he says pass that there yolk 🤨0
-
Used to be called the hand grenade, as we used to chuck it at one another.2
-
For my family it was the doojamaflip. Now it's only me, it's the remote, but I always know where it is.0
-
I call it The Thing.0
-
Just a remote for me too. I'm not a fun person!
A relative refers to it as 'the buttons', which is a bit too vague for me. Chocolate? Shirt? TV?0 -
It's a remote to me, but pass me the thingy has also been said0
-
My family would also use a variation of 'the thing', we sometimes said "Thingymabob"

I call it a remote but my partner calls it the dibber (I think secretly she's a frustrated bingo player ha ha)0
-
Anyone seen my TV remote?, I lost it on one of the threads.0
