Hey all,
Just a quick post on behalf of my wife:
She is on Contributions based ESA and no means tested other benefits. We are in the process of selling our other house and she is concerned that any profits from the sale, she will not be able to keep. Please can someone confirm that this is not true and that she can feel relaxed enough that the profit made form the sale will be hers and not have to declare it. We will not be buying any other properties from the sale.
Thank you all!

As none of you claim any means tested benefits they selling the 2nd property will not affect her ESA because it's not means tested.

Hi Poppy,
Thank you for your reply.
So my wife doesn't need to contact anyone with regards to the sale? We know we may need to pay capital gains tax.
Many thanks,

No, not if she's only claiming contributions based ESA because it's not means tested. If it was Income Related then having a 2nd property would be counted as capital anyway and would exclude you from all means tested benefits if the capital in the property is more than £16,000.If it's all contributions based and she's in the Support Group i would expect her ESA to be £129.50/week, is that was she receives?0

My wife has a private pension and gets £248 every two weeks for ESA. She gets less due to her private pension. I hope this helps.

Then that confirms that her ESA is all contributions based and isnt means tested. If any of her ESA was Income Related this would be reduced £1 for £1 by her pension.Pensions of up to £85/week are ignored for contributions based ESA but reduced by 50p/week for every £1 over that amount.0
