Just had a knee replacement 10 days ago. I know it will be painful for a while, but I wondered if anyone could say when it starts to get better and how do I know if I am doing enough exercise or overdoing it.

Hi @leswal0 welcome to the forum. Ouch at knee replacement. Do you have a physiotherapist or seen one after your op with daily exercises to do. The recovery depends on the person, so while someone may recover quickly others may take longer. Are you able to walk on it yet

I am using a zimmer frame and can walk to the loo and back, but still can't lift my leg onto the bed without help. Physio is not until 3rd July ! But am doing the exercises in the booklet I was given. Doing these around 3 times a day and having the leg up the rest of the time. Just not sure how long it takes before it starts to feel better. To be honest it's getting me down

Hello @leswal0
Welcome to the community!
I'm so sorry to hear you are in pain still. Have you updated your GP or specialist about it? As Sandy said, the recovery depends on the person and sometimes will depend on the surgery too. Consulting with the GP / Specialist may be able to give you more answers0 -
Hi @leswal0 thanks for your reply, it's good you can mobilise on it. It's also good that you have exercises todo. I know how daunting it is to do the knee strengthen exercises but it will pay off in the end. Unfortunately it doesn't happen over night. Plus 10 days is quite soon after your op.
Try stay positive.

I had my right knee replaced 3 weeks ago - I have had trouble lifting my leg is getting better - I found it helpful to hook a crepe bandage over my foot and you can then gently lift your leg onto the bed - hope this helps
