Poppy123456, thank you, I get trouble sleeping, and lying in bed I tend to stress over things. And when I get my award letter, I'm going to ring DWP to inform income support of my PIP award. I'll also tell them my sister will be putting in a claim for carers allowance.

Just an update, received my award letter this morning, I have been  awarded it for 10 years, very pleased. I had 10 points mobility (lower rate) and 13 points (enhanced care) I rang income support to report a change of circumstances as received pip and she said they will get back to me, to see if I will receive any extra money. I can't receive severe disability allowance as my sister has put in for carers but might get disability allowance and enhanced disability premium.

Great news. You will be entitled to both disability premiums backdated to the start of your PIP award.

Thanks both, I was very pleased, as its 10 years, now I can put the reviews out of my mind and not dwell on it.

This sounds like a relief @jeanette78. Please don't hesitate to let us know if there's anything else we can do to help  :)

I'm glad this question is here, it has made me aware of something I'd never considered.
My wife currently claims DLA low rate care, she is also my full-time carer, I'm on enhanced rate for both care and mobility.
My wife has just applied for PIP change of circumstances, the advisor thinks she should also get the enhanced rate for both components of PIP.
How would this affect her carers allowance and our UC IF she gets awarded PIP?

Carers allowance won't be affected in the same way it isn't now when claiming DLA. Does your UC include the LCWRA element for yourself?  Carers allowance is deducted in full from your UC so can i just check that the carers element is also included in your UC for your wife?

LCWRA is part of UC and was never known as Incapacity benefit. ESA replaced Incapacity benefit.
As your UC includes the LCWRA element, even if your wife is awarded daily living part you will not be able to claim carers element for looking after her because of the LCWRA element, they can't be paid at the same time to the same person. This means if she's awarded PIP your UC will remain the same.

I wasn't going to claim carers, my wife gets carers allowance currently, she claimed carers allowance (caring for me) on top of hew own DLA low rate care.

When we moved we were forced to claim UC, previously we/I got ESA + Support, I think it was paid at the same rate is Incap.

There's no guarantee that my wife will get PIP (although the advisor thinks she should get it)

You asked if she's awarded PIP does it affect your UC, which is why advised about carers element when claiming LCWRA element yourself.

Does your UC include the carers element? You can check your statements if you're not sure.  Carers allowance is just deducted in full from your UC so there's no financial gain to claiming it at the same time.

Carers allowance is £76.75/ week or £307 every 4 weeks. The deduction from UC is £332.58/month.

    Carers element is £185.86/month.

Hi, just an update. Just rang DWP,  to see how my claim for Disability premium and Enhanced Disability Premium was progressing. As when I rang several days ago they couldn't see my claim for PIP had been awarded. Spoke to an extremely helpful woman, she said I'd automatically receive both premiums next Thursday, with backdated money. Also she would send me a form for severe disability premium, even though I explained that my sister had put in a claim for carers allowance. She said I  might receive it until her claim had been processed. Very pleased 😀

Hannah_Scope, thanks, surprised that she said that I might get SDP until my sister is awarded carers though.

That's very poor advice you've had from the call centre person, not surprising really as they are not benefits advisors. If your sister has asked for the carers allowance to be paid from the start of your PIP award (when you first rang to start your claim) then you will not be entitled to SDP at all.
