DLA to PIP Application for 16 year old

Good afternoon,
Please bear with me, I am new to this site and all things online chatting! (I also have ADHD) so might sound like I am talking about irrelevant things!
My son turned 16 in January of this year, he has a diagnosis of Autism and ADHD, has an EHCP and has just left school. He attended a specialist school after not being able to cope in mainstream. I applied for PIP back in April, received a text stating they had received the report from his assessment on 26/6/23 which I was confused about as he has not had an assessment. I have since received another text today stating they have still not made a decision.
Is it worth me chasing this up or do I leave it? I’m confused how they can assess him without completing the assessment if you see what I mean?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
K x

He will have had a paper based assessment because they had enough of information not to need an actual assessment, They are rare but possible and doesn't mean a bad thing. Once the report is returned a decision can take up to 12 weeks.Do be aware that if awarded PIP and it's a higher award than the DLA then they will be no money owed. PIP will start about 7 weeks after the decision was made.0
