Hi all
i am starting early doing some research for travel in 2024. For 5 years I have remained at home but on the eve of my birthday … Friday 14th I will be 49. I don’t want to continue like this. So planning my 50th birthday and found Kendal in Cumbria. I started to think of places I want to visit but worry so much about accessibility I am too scared. I won’t even go to my own town, so thought I would start by researching cities in UK with good accessibility. I live in Manchester but want to explore more and I want 2024 to be the year I get out of this life I am currently enduring! Any suggestions welcome

Hi @bizzarebird welcome to the forum
Its great that you want to start travelling more,  alot of members here do travel to different places and have little problems with access. The best way to do it is to pick a place you want to go , then do research on that area like the hotels and places to visit.  Take someone with you if you are able.
Also lots of travelling groups you can go with I've put a link below so hours read on what 1 travel company does, might be some in your area too.

    Hello @bizzarebird :)

Just to let you know, I popped your post into our transport and travel section. Hopefully you'll get some more ideas. I see Sandy has shared a link to disability friendly holidays. I would also encourage you to have a look at disability life influencers on social media as they will have shared some places.

I's also have a look at Wilde Stay City Aparthotels. They have locations in London, Edinburgh, Manchester and Berlin. What I love is that they have accessible rooms and they don't differentiate the price to a non accessible room. For example if you decided to say travel around London a little, I like that with aparthotels, you have your own little kitchen and facilities, so you can take it at your own pace :)

Have you ever thought about visiting the Isle of Man? We have some fabulous, purpose built, fully accessible holiday accommodation here (The Joey Dunlop Foundation). Based just on the outskirts of Douglas, they are self catering holiday apartments, specifically for guests with disabilities...profile beds, wet rooms, hoists, hardwood floors, ramps. The Isle of Man is a beautiful place too, lots of great places to visit, stunning scenery, wildlife etc
