Hi, I’ve been on here once before and the knowledge/advice was outstanding.
Hope someone can help again!
We (2 adults 1 child) receive UC, my husband has always worked and cared for me/our child at the same time, I receive LCWRA and our child receives DLA.

Unfortunately my husband has just been made redundant (no redundancy pay)
We've asked at the job centre if there’s any temporary financial help we could get as obviously we’re going to be minus his wages next month, but they said no.

(Obviously our UC will go up slightly which is good, but I’m presuming not by much)
But what’s really odd is, I’ve just been on a benefits calculator and it seems to suggest that my husband ought to be now claiming new style JSA!?

Does this sound right….it’s so confusing!
Thank you very much in advance 😊😊

Yes your husband can claim New style JSA if he’s paid the correct NI contributions in the previous 2 tax years. However, you will not be financially better off because it’s deducted in full from any UC entitlement.
The only other benefit that’s possible to claim will be council tax reduction from your local Authority. Can I just check if your child’s DLA includes either mid/high rate care your husband can claim carers element, which increases your maximum UC entitlement by £185.86/month. (If they don’t already)1 -
They do not to need to claim new style ESA. If he does claim and receive the JSA the money will be deducted from the UC there will no financial gain.
You get LCWRA in the UC. Does he get the carer element for caring from your child (provided they get care of high rate care on the DLA)?
(EDIT - as usual, by the time i have completed by post poppy has already covered it!)1 -
