Universal credit and work.

Hi everyone. My partner works part-time, and we both receive UC. I also receive PIP. My partner worked full time, until March 2020. The company she worked for went into administration. The company owed her nearly £1000
Last month, she received a final settlement payment of wages owed, after tax for £415.
UC have added that to her part-time wage, and deducted the 55% over the limit.
My question is, as this payment she received was for work in the period before we claimed UC, is that right?

It is correct. UC is based on earnings received during your monthly assessment period. Even when it’s for work done before you claimed UC.

Do i understand this correctly, that if for example I applied for UC on 1/7, this is the date my assessment period begins, and any income from that day, counts. But any money received before, even a day or so, ie 30/06, will not count. Correct?

It is probably like that, but i am making sure because i dont feel 100% the last few days.

Yes your assessment period starts on the date you submitted your claim and lasts for 30 days each month. As an example, you submitted your claim on 12th July so your AP will be 12th to 11th of every month. Any earnings received during that time will affect your UC.  (your payment date will be 18th of every month)

If someone has the work allowance there's an earnings disregard of either £379/month if you claim for help with the rent or £631/month if you don't. The WA applies if you either have children on your claim or you've been found to have LCW/LCWRA. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/universal-credit-work-allowances/universal-credit-work-allowances

As you do not work you will receive no earnings so there will be no deductions for earnings for you anyway.

You're welcome. I just thought it would be easier to understand if i based on your AP instead.

Can I try and explain a little better.
My partner earns roughly £400 pm. I understand UC take those earnings into account.
She received a payment of over £400 from a previous employer from 2020, which was owed by them.
We wasn't claiming UC at that time.
The total earnings received last month was now over £800.
UC deducted over £200. Is that right?
    Hope that clarifies it better

I understood exactly what you meant the first time. My advice is correct, UC entitlement is based on earnings received during your assessment period. It doesn't matter when those earnings are for.
