Hi there I’m new here so abit nervous,i was wounderig if i can add a new illness  to my pip claim.I’m still waiting for a diagnosis yet thou as I’m getting scans etc this week.Ive been getting treated with other Scans ext since December. It’s a long waiting game waiting for appointments and so on.I’ve also had a tx msg off pip saying your pip review is about to start and if you don’t receive forms with in two weeks to ring them.So do i add this to my claim when forms come or wait to see what the outcome of scans is.Im petrified waiting for these forms as it is and any advice would be very welcome.Thankyou.

You need to make sure you treat it as a new claim. It will be the shorter version (AR1) form that you will receive and not the PIP2. It will ask you if there's been any changes and when. Even if there's been no changes you still need to give the full details.

Include everything (not your life story) you do not need to wait for test results or a diagnosis because it's not about a diagnosis.

Include a couple of real world incidents of exactly what happened the last time you attempted each descriptor that applies to you. Adding detailed information such as where you were, what exactly happened, did anyone see and what the consequences were. You should aim for at least half an A4 side of paper per descriptor that applies to you.

You can request an extra 2 weeks to return the form by ringing PIP to ask for this. There are considerably long delays with review decisions so you could be waiting quite sometime before you hear anything. Most people have assessments, which are mostly by telephone. Some are video and face to face. Your current award will continue until a decision is made on the review.

I think it's a very good thing that they are now sending texts to people advising them that their review has started and to expect the form. At least this way it doesn't come as too much of a shock when the form arrives. I'm also expecting mine within the next few months... the joys! :#

I’m already receiving enhanced pip for mh this new illness only started properly last November.I’m just worried that by treating it as a new claim will the whole pip process go back to when you first apply for it.Sorry I’m finding it hard to deal with atm. Also my pip review shouldn’t really start until next March that is when i got awarded it for 2nd time 3 years ago. It’s so confusing but thankyou so much for your advice.Could i also ask if they check up with the hospital that I’m under as it is a team in hospital not my doctor that are carrying out all these tests on me.Thanks again for your help.

The best way to treat it is as a new claim and i'm advising as someone with quite a lot of knowledge. Never just put no change and nothing else.

They very rarely contact anyone for any evidence but it can happen.

As for your review time, when does your award end? When a review is due has nothing to do with when the decision was made on a current claim.

The award letter will tell you they will contact you anytime from 1 year before the award is due to end. Before the pandemic this would have been about 6 months before. Due to the extreme backlogs they are contacting people about 8 months before the award is due to end.

Yes, you put your symptoms down, a diagnosis isn't needed for a successful PIP award. There's a short guide here for the PIP review form. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-or-disabled-people-and-carers/pip/pip-changes-and-reviews/help-with-your-pip-review-form/

The most important thing to include will be those real world examples i mentioned above.
