PIP Paper based assessments?

Hi everyone!
I started my PIP claim for uncontrolled epilepsy and bipolar disorder at beginning of March. I recently went through a pretty bad episode (paranoid hallucinations/suicidal), and had to be treated by crisis team - DWP are aware of it. I'm wondering if it's likely that they would give me a paper-based assessment because of that? I'm really dreading the idea of the consultation as I know it will probably escalate my mental state which is already very fragile. I'm also extremely isolated and don't have anyone to really guide me through it.

Everytime I've been on the phone with them they've said I might not need the assessment but idk if that's just something they tell everyone

I received the ''Hello from Independent Assessment Services'' message on 1st July. It's been almost 5 weeks and haven't heard back anything. How long do people normally wait to get any news after that? I'm based in London if that helps.

Most people have assessments which are mostly by telephone. If there's enough of information for them to write the report without an assessment then they will.

Waiting times at this stage can be anything up to a few months, possibly longer. If an assessment is needed you will be contacted.
