I thought you might like to have a look at these and tell me if I'm looking at things the same?
And I bet others can add to this list?
Must be showing my age now. What do you think?

Im a child of the 60's born in 59 and agree with it all2024 The year of the general election...the time for change is coming 💡

Wow makes you think how things have changed.

Jeans, if you even had any, were ripped because you had been working in them, then you would repair them. You wouldn’t dream of buying jeans with rips already in them
Todays girls shorts wouldn’t qualify as knickers let alone outerwearA lager and lime was a fussy cocktail
A car journey was a smooth success if you didn’t use your 2nd spare wheel, now you don’t even have a spare wheel
And…
Moaning about things being better in the past wasn’t a thing -
Reading this I can only conclude that we have better food now.They/Them, however they are no wrong pronouns with me so whatever you feel most comfortable with

@Jimm_Scope I totally agree, among all the threads about how things were better in the past (I am not doubting some things were and I am often guilty of living in the past myself) I was thinking of making a thread about things that are better now?
-
I always believe that you need to compare the past with where we are now, otherwise you really can't make head way.
The Labour Exchange was some where where you could see someone face to face to discuss the options on how best to get into work and if courses were available to suit where or what was available in the job cards on show, like fork truck driving, or drop off drivers with HGV licences.
You would receive replies within hours not 20 weeks for benefit enquiries, and would also ring for positions thatstart straight away. -
Personally I think things are a lot better in so many ways now than long ago. Better than the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s. Has everything got better? No, but on average I think things have certainly become better.
It's the past 15 years where the average of things are worse than before.
Edit: Also @66Mustang if you look at historical newspapers and surveys, people have always complained that things "were better in the past/when I was younger". It's definitely not a new thing, as a generation ages they see changes and people tend to dislike change.They/Them, however they are no wrong pronouns with me so whatever you feel most comfortable with

The last one now actually stands out to me.
What's wrong with elbows on the table? I get it was supposedly rude in the past, but why? I'm curious what the reason is outside of "because my parents said so and their parents said so". I mean, my parents briefly mentioned it to me as a child but I think even they weren't really sure why and also didn't really follow it.They/Them, however they are no wrong pronouns with me so whatever you feel most comfortable with

Elbows off the table is actually much older than we'd expect. It's even written in the bible! If you've seen Da Vinci's painting of The Last supper, you'll note Judas has his elbow on the table.
-
Etiquette actually originated as a way to keep diners from fighting during meals, and placing your elbows on the table can be perceived as aggressive or confrontational. Nowadays, fighting at dinner is less of a problem than slouching in your seat, and keeping your elbows off the table promotes better posture.
So there you have it. -
All good that it creates better posture but I think it's a bit much to have a hard and fast rule on it. Edit: Like, if it's for my posture I think we can drop it being rude to other people. I mean, I think it has been dropped, at least I can't remember the last time someone commented about elbows on a table.
I agree that it's important to look back into history and compare, but there's also a lot of not-great things that are just accepted because "it's how it was done/tradition".
Also, I get this list is a joke but sushi is damn delicious and it has to be treated a certain way to ensure it's free of any parasites which is why it's more expensive :P
I still say all the food ones just highlight that our food options and knowledge is better now.They/Them, however they are no wrong pronouns with me so whatever you feel most comfortable with

Funnily enough after I finished work I saw this video that debunked a lot of the things in this! I learnt quite a bit from it I have to say. I know many people dislike the word "boomer" but I believe it's the same level of tongue-in-cheek as the original list is meant to be.

I would add medications and health treatments are much better now even tho improvements are still needed.
-
I feel like medications and treatment are often going to be something that will forever be able to be improved upon, but yes things are far, far better. Not just medications and treatments but basic understanding of many conditions.
I know for my own conditions the past 20 years have seen massive improvements, I look forward to seeing what the next 20 years can bring.They/Them, however they are no wrong pronouns with me so whatever you feel most comfortable with
