My Dad - aged 91 has spent the last 5 days in hospital after a major bowel operation
He was moved to a normal ward, yesterday after spending the first 4 days in High dependancy
Here
is the ward that he was in last night - a corridor - along with another 4 beds
A total lack of privacy and decency..as well as lack of toilet facilities close by
DISGUSTING ...?

He tells me that people were constantly squeezing past him during the night - so he got very little sleep...

Just another example of how far things have fallen in the past 10+ years. I imagine and assume the doctors and nurses don't want to do this, but they have little choice given the number of patients they must care for and number of beds that have been provided to do that.1

Brexit benefits?
Doctors and nurses left in their thousands thanks to those who used their 'common sense' and failed to read the small print. Two thirds of eligible voters were not fooled and I'm proud to be in this camp.

To be honest, Australia seems a popular choice for British Doctors & Nurses. Can't blame them either, more money, less hours and a better climate to be in!0

You know things aren't great when people choose to move to a country where 90% of the wildlife is trying to eat you.
I really hope your dad recovers soon and gets a proper ward sorted @Wibbles0 -

Personally, I think it's a combination of the two. Throw in a pandemic to really show the cracks and that's a triple whammy.1

I shudder whenever the prospect of another visit to A&E looms on the horizon. The only "good" thing is that my daughter is usually only there 12 hours or so - the last time she was rushed through within 10 minutes. I see people who don't meet the minor injuries criteria, forced to go to A&E instead, waiting for 24 hours, even more, as their injuries just aren't urgent enough to climb the waiting list.
I read an interesting Twitter thread about the government strategy during the pandemic. A lot of countries' health service has actually improved, because ICU provision was PERMANENTLY expanded. The Tories were very careful to keep the extra ICU in the Nightingale units. Our NHS contracted by 8% during the pandemic, it's utterly shameful.0 -
@Wibbles I have an ileostomy bag. There is a lot of information on Colostomy UK should he need it I hope he has support from a stoma nurse?0
