I’ve had lots of experience with bad gums over the years and I can assure you that a dentist isn’t going to just remove your teeth.I agree with Charlie that they will do everything they can to save them. For me I suffered for many years and went through all the deep cleaning procedures and fillings but in the end it really was the last resort. Some of my teeth were removed and I had partial dentures on top on bottom. This was only because there was no other option for me other than to go through more painful deep cleaning. I chose this option because it was better for me.0

Hi there @itookthewrongpath and welcome to the community!
I totally understand your worries over going to the dentist, but they'll only remove teeth as a last resort as Poppy and Charlie said. I was terrified of going to the dentists after many years of smoking and neglect, but after two trips to the hygienist for some deep cleaning and a white filling just to be safe, things are looking a lot better.0 -
Charlie1973 said:Hi, I used to be a dental nurse & receptionist many years ago so I know a little bit about this. Most dentists will try to save as many teeth as possible. The scale and polish will get the majority of stains off unless the dentin (under layer) is exposed - this is very yellow in colour. The next step from using fillings & white fillings is crowns and only as a last resort will a dentist use a denture, even then only a partial denture rather than a full one would be preferable.0
