@Marie50 ... please don't let scaremongering put you off.  I get enhanced daily and only standard mobility ... one of the questions the DM asked me on the phone was if I drove, and whether it's a manual or auto

I've a manual and that didn't go against me.  I got a 4 year award.  Most of my problems stem from Fibro' so it's dexterity/ movement etc

If it's going to make your life easier ...

Let me just say this. I am not and never have had the intention of being negative in anything.
What I do point out are the risks.
I know from reading this forum and similar others that applicants claiming PIP or DLA have had their assessor negatively mark down the scores with comments like:
Driving a car requires a certain amount of physical actions by the applicant - such as legs and feet to manipulate the foot pedals as well as arm and hands movement to manipulate the steering wheel/gear selector.
In addition assessors have also said that driving involves a considerable amount of mental facility and awareness.
Now if anybody wants to tell me that this never happens please let me know.

Im sorry @2oldcodgers but your excuses really don't hold water in this case. Marie specifically stated in her original post that she herself would not be driving it very often herself yet you still thought it relevant to try and make her believe that somehow having a car on Motability could somehow impact her claim.

The Motability scheme is designed specifically for people with disabilities and many people on Motability drive themselves anyway and it does not affect their claim.

In this case what you posted was inappropriate and caused anxiety when it wasn't even relevant.

You often post un-called for negativity just for the sake of it regardless of what you claim, a fact that can easily be seen in my own post recently when I announced what car I have ordered myself on Motability.

You need to have a long hard think about what you are contributing to this forum because what you say can have a massive effect on people's lifestyles on here!

Just sharing my experience in case it helps.

I am on my 2nd Motability car.

Both my cars have had absolutely no adaptations and a manual gearbox. My current one some may even call a sports car.

    I drive almost every day.

Last car had 40,000 miles when I handed it back after just over 3 years. So about 1000 miles a month.

I always have a passenger with me and when handing my last car back it was noted how the passenger seat had worn out identically as the drivers seat, which is uncommon. Sort of a good proof that the car rarely went out with just a driver (a handful of times my Mum used it alone to run errands for me) because with most cars the driver seat wears out more than the others.

During my recent PIP assessment my driving was not put against me in any way shape or form. I simply answered that yes I do drive every day but always have to be with someone else.

I think the relevant point is that I can't follow a familiar route on my own, which I think is the descriptor.

    Hope this helps a little.
