Still waiting for my motability car.

This is my first motability car and I placed the order the 5th August 2023. I was told by the dealer at the time that the car would be ready by January due to part delays etc.
I rung the dealership today and he said its going to be a few more months 😔
He said its usually 6 months from the date of order so I said well for me that'd be February, and then he said probably won't be February.
I dont have a car at the moment and it's taking so much longer than I thought 😔

I appreciate that this may not be useful advice if your car is to have adaptations, but, are they able to offer you a hire car to drive until your car arrives? I have heard of dealers doing this.0
-
They did say they could offer a hire in the meantime but they want £360 a month for it and I can't justify paying that 😔0
-
Oh wow! I agree with you not worth paying that. Usually it's free (until you get your car)!!!1
-
Really? That's naughty then that they're asking so much 😔😔0

Hey there @reedy1604 and welcome to the community!
I'm sorry to hear you're having to wait for your car, I understand it can be really frustrating. I'm not sure about them offering you a hire car for £360 a month, that seems quite steep?0 -
£360 a month is definitely out of my price range 😔0

@reedy1604
Hi and welcome to the forum I just wanted to welcome you.
You should have a look around The Recent discussions and the games it helps pass some time. And there’s lovely people to chat with.
Im sorry you are waiting so long.It might be worth getting back in touch with them and ask if there is anything they can offer at a much lower price than they previously stated. 😊1 -

Are you sure that's correct? As this is a first vehicle they are waiting for they are not a motability customer until they collect their vehicle. For this reason motability will not allow them access to a free courtesy vehicle while they wait. I found this forum here that maybe useful. https://forum.whichmobilitycar.co.uk/forums/topic/is-it-possible-to-be-given-a-courtesy-car-whilst-you-wait-for-factory-vehicle/

The company should provide a courtesy car for free or are they a car hire business?0 -

The dealer or motability will not provide a hire car or courtesy car while waiting for your first motability vehicle. Please see my previous comment.

What model of car are you waiting for @reedy1604 ?0

As above, interested to know which manufacturer this is for.
Unfortunately, in my experience, car salespeople often spout utter rubbish just to get their commission. They aren't interested in the customers needs.

It's a Kia Sportage GT Line I'm waiting for.
From a main Kia dealership where I live.1 -
Ah, one of the few manufacturers/dealerships I don't have any direct experience with I'm afraid.
The lead times for the Sportage was about 6 months last year. There were issues with ports & shipping as well as component shortages. The Xmas & New Year period often adds a couple of weeks to an ETA as well.
Has your dealer told you whether the car has been built yet? They can check that on their system, but won't offer that information unless you directly ask for it. If it hasn't been built, you may be able to cancel your order and see if there is a suitable car at any other Kia dealership that you could collect asap. (Don't cancel your order or mention it to the salesperson until you have definite confirmation of another being available).0 -

I'd be worried then about the upfront cost as well as it was £1279 upfront but because I ordered in August I had the £750 offer from motability towards the upfront payment. If I cancel the order I don't think I'd get that again as I'm sure it expired end of last year.0 -

The £750 payment contribution is still available now. If the AP has increased with the Q1 book price though, then obviously you would have to pay the extra AP now.
As I say, I don't know whether there will be any suitable cars at alternative dealerships right now. I think it is worth checking though. If you do find one or more suitable cars, then that's the point to ask how it works with regards to cancelling one order and choosing another instead. One step at a time...
If you do decide to just wait for your current car, then I hope the wait isn't too much longer.0 -

You’ll get this payment if you order your first vehicle before the end of 2024.
If you're already on the Scheme and have not had your New Vehicle Payment yet, you'll get it whenever you get your next vehicle.

Wouldn't cancel your order to go with another dealer unless they say they have one on the forecourt right now that you could have.
The problem with swapping to another dealership is if they are factory ordering you another car you'll just end up right back at the end of a queue you are already in. Those 12 week quotes are also only estimates and not a set in stone date so unless theres a physical car at the dealership right now that you can have stick with your initial order.
Im currently waiting for a Vauxhall Mokka that my dealership is expecting to be delivered at the end of this month. It is a cancelled order from a previous Motability customer but even that is not guaranteed yet. I have to ring them middle of this month to see if the date they have quoted me is going to hold true.0
