Until becoming disabled myself I didn't know how hard and how bad the benefit system treats people that are disabled.

Hi @chalkyman, welcome to our community I hope you find useful advice or friendship here!
What sort of things are you interested in talking about?
If you need help with benefits we have a few categories to help with applying for them and issues you can encounter.
The system is indeed difficult, they make you jump through so many hoops. But this is a community space for disabled people to help each other, so we are all better off.2 -
That's good to hear as my experience so far hasn't been a good one. At least finally had a little bit of good news today I have been awarded the lcwra after starting the process a year ago. Anyone know when you actually get your first payment once you received the award letter?1

I agree with @woodbine that we aren't treated too bad but this is from my own experience which is almost entirely positive. I think we are OK compared with many countries but it could indeed be better in ensuring that everyone gets equal treatment, remove the "luck" element from the decision making process and treat everyone the same.
Anyway I hope this website helps with some of the issues that you have with claiming and makes it as smooth as possible.3 -
@chalkyman When did you first start submitting evidence of sick notes? If it was a year ago and it's only just been resolved now payments start 3 months after you first submitted a sick note with no gaps, and any pay will be backdated to that time if it's passed the 3 months already.2

@Jimm_Scope thank you that is really helpful to know. It was 31st January I submitted the first one then submitted a further four at 3 months a pop. It's been he'll to sort as the work coach was really difficult and they lost my forms then took them 4 months to send my file over to the disability place for assessment. This has taken a huge mental toll on my health. I appreciate you guidance.1
