@Amberpearl I have had a similar experience with mice now and then, and actually had one in my kitchen the weekend, they can get into the smallest of holes, I had to use the wire wool on the outside of the house, where my washing pipe is and it has helped I had my back door open letting my dog in, and I have extractor fans in the wall and bathroom. My cat is an indoor cat and she catches and kills them, it's not the most nicest of methods but im terrified of mice and rats, i also tried the peppermint oil, I had the plug which I think did help, I only seem to get one or two a time, so not much droppings. I think the plug and blocking holes with wire wool works the best, there are also sticky mats and traps with a bit of peanut butter which they love but it's not very humane or pleasant. Good luck.

Very unpleasant for you, Amberpearl. Get a terrier, any terrier, I kid you not. (Do you know anyone with a terrier you could have whilst they are on holiday etc?)
Gus would go through them like a dose of salts.

@Catherine21 no such luck, it's a picture from Tichwell in Norfolk an RSPB Sight, ive stayed at a couple of their sites, the accommodation was a lovely big house, but not very cheap, my mum and dad are keen birdwatchers and my dad is a rRSPB warden at upton Warren. I loved it their im a novice birdwatcher. It was the sunniest picture I had without people on it lol.
