I am starting a new claim for ESA with my partner .we are both in support group and at present I get severe disability allowance as no carer .How would it effect Our ESA if My partner Claims Carers allowance.Would we be better off claiming Carers allowance or not and possibly what would our rates be .We are both over 25 and my partner is 20 weeks pregnant .Thanks for any help and advice

You can't start a new claim for Income Related ESA because it no longer exists. Which ESA does your partner claim? Is it Income Related or contributions based? Are you currently living together?Does your partner claim either PIP daily living, DLA mid/high rate care or ADP daily living?0

Contribution based as been on for many years .he is standard care for PIp and she has just moved in so basically a new claim0

Hi @gggg, welcome to the community I know you already have an idea of what to apply for, but have you used a Benefits Calculator to see what you could be entitled to? Let me know if this is something you've already done!
Hopefully we can help figure out exactly what you're both entitled to and help you get there0 -
have tried but every one comes out different .could you help0

Many people assume they are claiming contributions based benefits when it's actually Income Related. If his ESA is more than £129.50/week then at least part of it will be Income Related. Are either of you claiming Tax credits at all? also can you just confirm that both of you are currently receiving daily living PIP?Sorry for all the questions but can't advise without all the information.0

only my son is on pip he is on £450 fortnightly at mo and she is on approx 250. Both support group0

Are you asking these questions for yourself or for your son and his partner? I need to know all the exact details before I can give any advice because I could give incorrect advice, which I don't want to do.
It would actually be better if they get some expert advice from an agency near them.0 -
this query is on behalf of my son and partner .thanks0

That's what I thought but in your first comment you were typing as if it was you. It's always more difficult to give 3rd party advice.
As she doesn't claim PIP then the SDP in with his ESA will end. Do they need to claim for help with any rent?

no rent is ok .thanks
would she have to claim carers and what about th LWRC part ?not sure if I said it write could you possibly do a calculation please0 -
Which ESA is she claiming? If it's Income Related and your son's is also Income Related then they can't both continue with those. They would need to report changes to ESA that they are now living as a couple.LCWRA is part of Universal Credit and not ESA. I'm afraid it's impossible to do any calculation without knowing which ESA they are both claiming.Once the baby is born they would both need to claim Universal Credit anyway, otherwise they wouldn't receive any extra money for the baby.I would advise your son and his partner to get some expert advice because giving 3rd party advice is extremely difficult. This link will tell you what advice agency is local to them. https://advicelocal.uk/welfare-benefits
