Pip mandatory reconsideration

Hi I was awarded pip in August 2023 low care only and nothing for mobility. I have been going through mental health and on tablets as well. For the care part of pip I was only 1 point short to get higher care. I want to put in a Mandatory Reconsideration and want to make a strong case as its been 6 months since awarded is there a risk?

Also can I ask my GP to write a letter for me saying something like that I have been struggling with my mental health and so for that reason I have not around to doing the MR and list all of my medication.

Hi @sandy786, I'm sorry to hear you were one point short and that you've been having mental health struggles.
As long as it's within 13 months of the decision, you can still ask for a mandatory reconsideration, though I would strongly advise doing this by letter and not by phoning up to ask for one.  You need to be showing how your issues affect the relevant descriptors with real life examples, that's what they mark you on, not what's in a GPs letter.  I hope this helps.

You need to give a reason why you didn’t request it within the first month. You do not need a letter from your GP with any reasons why you’re late.

If they refuse then you just proceed with Tribunal.

Most MR decisions remain the same. Only 23% of decisions change at this point. It’s rare also to lose points at this stage but it can happen.
