Hi All, new to the site but not new to disability.
I'm on PIP, UC, Housing etc and don't work.
I want to start a business (Self employed) and be a partner with my wife who is my carer.
But I am concerned about money and my benefits.
I want to work part time (Not sure if it's gonna be 14 or 20 hours a week) but what would happen to my benefits and I was also told I could get a benefit for working (Not the reason I really want to work though lol)
Can anyone advise me on this?
TIA

You are already claiming UC and there's no other benefits possible to claim because this has replaced all the old legacy benefits. People work and claim UC, it's not just for those who are unable to work.BitsandBobs said:I was also told I could get a benefit for working (Not the reason I really want to work though lol)
If you start working you will need to report a change of circumstances on your journal and tell them. You will need to attend a gateway appointment at your local job centre as this applies to everyone that's self employed when they start.
You have the work allowance, which means you and your partner can receive £379/month earnings before the 55% deductions apply.
As self employed you will need to report your earnings and expenses on your journal on the last day of each assessment period. self-employment-and-universal-credit
If your partner is claiming Carers allowance as well as UC then she needs to be aware that there's an earnings limit of £139/week. If she earns more than this there will be no entitlement to carers allowance. If she's claiming carers element of UC then there's no earnings limit.2 -
Thank you
