Hi there.
I have cp and got brought up by albleist parents. I got told it was mild and i had many many childhood operations to 'make me normal' however now at the ripe old age of 43 i'm now coming to terms with my disablity as things are becoming harder and a bit of a struggle. I hope to get a lot of amazing advice and mental health support here as well as a few friendships along the way :: Tbh i cant believe that ive left it this long to join here and should have totally done so a decade ago lol.

Yea it really did, i mean mentally it messes you up cus as a adult now i realise they were trying to make me be the best i could be and im independant because of it (not saying thats good or bad btw) but it has made me very ashamed and body dysmorphic about myself that has manifested itself negatively. Not to mention me not having many friends cus i was always trying TOO hard to fit in when some people felt very uncomfortable about disability and maybe i was the first person they had ever met with CP. I dont think any of the people i went to school with even knew thats what i had cus no one dared to ask lol! I learnt to 'mask' very early in my life and copy/mirror others so much that later on in life when i had to figure out what i wanted boy.. was that such a difficult question to answer!1

Hello @WhiteRose9999
Welcome to the community! I wanted to tag @Richard_Scope in this post. Richard is our Cerebral Palsy Programme Lead. Scope has a CP Network you may find helpful. They have a variety of discussions at a monthly meeting I hope the network and the community helps you with advice and support.1 -
Hi @WhiteRose9999I wanted to extend a warm welcome to you for joining our community. As someone who also lives with cerebral palsy, I understand the challenges that come with it. However, I want you to know that there are resources available in the cerebral palsy section of our community that might be of interest to you. There are CP-specific groups and counselling services that you might find helpful. While things aren't perfect yet, there are more resources available now than ever before.0
